DEEP TISSUE

Deep Tissue Massage in El Poblado, Medellín

Deep tissue massage uses firm, focused pressure to reach the muscle layers underneath the surface. It is the treatment to book when you have specific tight areas rather than general stress.

Sessions run 60, 90, or 120 minutes in a private room with a licensed therapist.

What is deep tissue massage?

Deep tissue works slowly and with sustained pressure into the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. Your therapist stays on one area longer than they would during a relaxation massage, working through tension rather than passing over it.

Does deep tissue massage hurt?

It should feel intense but not painful. There is a point where pressure stops being productive and your muscles start guarding against it, which works against the treatment. Tell your therapist during the session if the pressure is too much. Adjusting it is normal and does not make the massage less effective.

How often should you get a deep tissue massage?

For a specific problem area, every one to two weeks until it resolves. For general maintenance, once a month is enough for most people. If you train hard or sit at a desk all day, closer to every two weeks tends to hold better results.

How long should a deep tissue session be?

Sixty minutes covers one or two focused areas, like your back and shoulders. Ninety minutes lets your therapist work the full body with real depth. Two hours is for when you want everything addressed without rushing. If you are booking deep tissue for the first time, start at 90 minutes.

What is the difference between deep tissue and sports massage?

Deep tissue targets chronic tension wherever it has built up. Sports massage is built around activity, working the muscle groups you use and timed around training or competition. If you are sore from sitting, book deep tissue. If you are sore from training, book sports massage.

What should you do after a deep tissue massage?

Drink water and give yourself an easy afternoon if you can. Some soreness the next day is normal, similar to how you feel after a hard workout. Our cold plunge or mineral bath pairs well with deep tissue and can be added to your session.

Who should avoid deep tissue massage?

Deep pressure is not right for everyone. If you have a blood clotting condition, are pregnant, or are recovering from a recent injury or surgery, talk to your doctor before booking. Let us know about any medical conditions when you arrive so your therapist can adjust the treatment.
